Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Congress today held a meeting at the official residence of Leader of Opposition Narsingha Mishra here in connection with the upcoming presidential election.

Ms Kumar has appealed to the MPs and MLAs for a vote of "conscience" and the "inner voice" in her favour.

As the Presidential Elections 2017 is underway, Congress-led Opposition Nominee Meira Kumar stated that her battle is of ideologies and she has urged the collegiums to listen to their conscience for the best interest of the country. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed the local unit to maintain party affiliations and sent AICC observer Siddharth Patel to negotiate between the MLAs and PCC members here.

The MIM's absence will also help widen the vote-gap between the BJP's Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar in Telangana. After all the political unrest over the issue, the party has now decided not to attend the meeting called by the joint Opposition, where the former Lok Sabha speaker will be present as it wants to avoid her, reported news agency ANI.

Scheduled meetings of UPA candidate Meira Kumar with the Odisha Congress MLAs here was cancelled twice.

The opposition Congress and Nationalist Congress Party on Sunday ruled out cross voting from their camp during the voting for Presidential election slated for Monday.

While Kovind, apart from the NDA allies, is being supported by major non-NDA parties like the JD-U, the BJD, the AIADMK, the TRS and the YSR-Congress.
