$1M in Marijuana Smuggled in Mexican-made Ford Fusions

With all the talk of healthcare bills and tax reform battles in Congress, Americans might've forgotten about another of Donald Trump's pet projects: a border wall with Mexico.

The Associated Press reports that more than 400 pounds of marijuana has been discovered inside 15 vehicles made in Mexico and sent to OH and Pennsylvania. Once the train crossed the border into the USA, they would stop for inspections.

Investigators also determined 15 new Ford Fusions on a rail auto had their spare tires removed and were replaced with compressed packages of marijuana resembling a tire, the release says.

The cars were built at a Ford plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, the news station reported.

After touching down at a dealership in Youngstown, Ohio, Fusions loaded with pairs of half-crescent packs of weed in place of spare tires were found between the dates of July 7 to 11.

Fifteen packages in all were recovered weighing a total of 480 pounds.

A drug task force in Ohio's Portage County was called to a Ford dealership this week after a service department employee found a package of pressed marijuana in a spare tire compartment during a vehicle inspection. Similar seizures were made earlier this year in Minnesota and Arizona.

The Portage County Sheriff's Drug Task Force is working with the DEA in the investigation.

That suggests that these were glitches-the exceptions, not the rules.

Both Ford and the train shipping company CSX, which transported the vehicles to the USA, say that they're taking the matter very seriously.
