The Conjuring 3 In Active Development

James is expected to leave the directing to someone else this time around and will just be a producer.

Keep it locked to Horror News Network for more word on The Conjuring 3 as it breaks!

The focus will still be on real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, as played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Famiga.

This wouldn't be the first time Wan has directed two films in a series before passing the baton - he directed Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 before his Saw co-writer Leigh Whannell took over. Having become the Avengers of this macabre cinematic universe, it's only understandable that the studio keep pumping out entries in the mainline series for as long as moviegoers continue taking the bait.

No release date has been confirmed, but two The Conjuring spin-offs are arriving this year, in the shape of The Nun and Annabelle: Creation. To be fair, that was the plan on The Conjuring 2 as well, before Wan's schedule changed and allowed him to make the movie. He's now filming Aquaman, a superhero movie that will keep him tied up for quite some time. In addition to The Conjuring 2, he's also known for Orphan and the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Wan's absence from the director's chair is a bit of a bummer. While no logline is available for the third film yet, producer Peter Safran recently told CinemaBlend that the Warrens won't be investigating another haunted house. That's probably because he'll be busy trying to get Aquaman in to theatres by December 2018, but I'm secretly hoping it's because he's working on some new groundbreaking horror project.
