Speaking on Monday after his reelection as club president, Perez made no mention of Ronaldo in his first public appearance since Portuguese media reported on Friday that Ronaldo was considering leaving Spain after a public prosecutor accused him of tax fraud.

Reigning Ballon d'Or and Best FIFA Men's Player award victor Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Manchester United having been "outraged" by what he feels is unfair treatment by Spanish tax authorities, making him determined to leave the country.

The move will see goalkeeper David De Gea return to the Spanish capital as Mourinho looks to bolster his squad with the "goals and personality" of his countryman.

And Perez, who has been re-elected to continue as Real president for the next four years, admits the news came as a surprise even to him. I have found everything out through the newspapers.

A four-time Ballon d'Or victor, the 32-year-old Ronaldo is the top European soccer player.

"I think it's an emotional situation right now... all I can say is he's playing at a fantastic club", he told Omnisport. This is very unusual and in the next few days I'll talk to him.

Ronaldo is at the Confederations Cup in Russian Federation, playing for Portugal.

"I must defend him at all costs, both as a player and as a person".

Manchester United have immediately been linked with a bid to take him back to Old Trafford, while Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be in the hunt should he become available.

"Cristiano has a contract and he is a Real Madrid player,"Perez told Onda Cero".

This comes in the wake of reports in the British press that Jose Mourinho has sanctioned an eye-watering £175 million move for the wantaway Real Madrid forward.
