Backup Juuse Saros didn't fare much better, giving up three goals in relief. The Stanley Cup Final got oddly sidetracked by Subban saying that Crosby accused him of having bad breath.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators meet Sunday in game six of the NHL Stanley Cup Final at the Bridgestone Arena.

The Penguins overwhelmed Rinne again, sending Nashville's star goaltender to the bench in Pittsburgh for a second straight game in the Stanley Cup Final. Their aim Thursday was to minimize the mistakes that the Penguins previously feasted on in taking a 2-0 series lead.

"Understand that we're going to play a desperate team", said Penguins captain Sidney Crosby after collecting three assists. I think we can learn from's impossible not to think about. Our guys have a tremendous amount of confidence in him.

"You move forward here, you learn from it and we'll be a lot better in our home rink", said Predators forward James Neal. It goes without saying that an Ellis injury would be a big deal for Nashville. But there's still at least one more chance for the teams to provide a one-goal game or maybe even some overtime, which had been on pace to break the all-time record for a single postseason through three rounds.

But the Predators had little to enjoy from this one.

Saros stopped 12 of the 15 shots he faced.

"As long as there's life, there's hope", Rinne said. The Penguins became the first team to get to six before the second intermission in a final game since Colorado against Florida in 1996.

It was a familiar showing for Rinne. He allowed two goals in his first seven minutes in the crease.

Both players were penalized two minutes for holding, and it led to a four-on-four that saw Evgeni Malkin fire a one-timer for a 3-0 lead with 11 seconds left. "We know we're going to be facing a desperate team".

Rinne is now 1-8-2 lifetime against the Penguins - his lone win came in relief at Nashville - and he owns a career 5.15 goals-against average and.822 save percentage in Pittsburgh. "I came here well-prepared and we just didn't have it tonight".

Sidney Crosby is putting together a performance for the ages, and in a big Game 5 win, he had his fingerprints on every aspect of the game.

On the ensuing four-on-four play, Malkin took a feed from Kessel and fired a shot past Rinne to make it 3-0 with 10.2 seconds left in the first.

Pittsburgh kept up the pressure and Chris Kunitz set up Rust for a backhander that sailed past Rinne's glove to make it 2-0 at 6:43.

They got goals from Justin Schultz, Bryan Rust, Evgeni Malkin, Conor Sheary, Phil Kessel and Ron Hainsey.

For the first time in this year's playoffs, the Predators face a win-or-it's-all-over scenario. But if the trend continues, Pittsburgh would be the favourites, with Game 7 Wednesday again at the PPG Paints Arena.

"I don't know if anybody shakes off a game like that that quickly", Laviolette said.

He popped for two assists in a series-opening win, set up the lone goal in Game 3 and scored the only goal himself in Game 4.
