Mercedes-Benz USA officials confirmed the car's arrival, slated for around September of next year, to US dealers at a meeting in Miami this month, according to dealers who attended. Ken Schnitzer, chairman of the Mercedes-Benz dealership and owner of four establishments in Texas, said he was confident that the future model would be very competitive in the market. Exact details are few and far between, but the report suggests a base price under US$30,000 and it will be sold alongside the CLA-Class.

Even though the A-Class is now known as a hatchback at the moment, and the new 2018 model for Europe is also set to follow that format, it seems the model planned for American dealers will be an all-new sedan variant.

The US version could start at around $ 30,000, or about $ 27,000, while the current CLA is priced from $ 32,700 (around $ 29,223) across the Atlantic. But the brand has been hinting at the coming vehicle.

The Concept A Sedan was unveiled in Shanghai this spring and is expected to go on sale in other markets next spring. Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm what the AMG GT sedan will be called. It will slot below the CLA-Class sedan, which carries "coupe-like" styling and is now the smallest Mercedes on sale in the US.

The A-Class is traditionally a hatchback, but when the latest generation is introduced either later this year or early next year, it will rock a sedan body.

On top of the A-Class sedan, Mercedes also showed dealers at the Miami event an AMG GT four-door high-performance variant of the sedan, and confirmed they will also have that to offer to their customers in the summer of 2018.

"Mercedes-Benz has been successful increasing overall sales through model line expansion, and this will be another effort in that direction", Brinley said.
