Macon, Georgia honors rocker Gregg Allman at his funeral

He was buried at Macon's Rose Hill Cemetery where his brother, Duane Allman, was also laid to rest in 1971. That's music journalist Amanda Petrusich joining us from her home in Brooklyn, N.Y., talking about musician Gregg Allman, who died today at the age of 69 in Savannah, Ga.Allman "passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia", a statement on the singer's website read Saturday.Allman was a onetime Tampa Bay-area resident, living in Anna Maria Island for about six years.

Legions of fans are expected to line the streets as music legend Greg Allman is carried to his final resting place at a cemetery in Macon, Georgia.


The funeral service was private, with room for only about 100 people inside the small chapel, reports the Associated Press. Notable guests included former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Allman's ex-wife, singer and actress, Cher. He blamed liver cancer.

Allman was supposed to perform at Macon's Grand Opera House on Saturday night.


Jaimoe, the only other surviving Allman Brother other than Betts, is also seen in the footage along with Derek Trucks, an Allman Brother from 2000 until the band's retirement in 2014. "We'll miss you brother Gregg". I met Gregg through Phil Walden of Capricorn Records, which was headquartered in Macon.

"He's somebody who has been in my life first as an artist and later as a real person since I was about 8 years old, and so it's shocking to think of the world without him", said Paul, 50, who interviewed Allman many times for his book. The maximum anyone could donate to a primary campaign was $1000, and corporations could not donate anything directly to a candidate. "Gregg Allman was there when I needed him and Rosalynn and I have always been grateful to him". "I was very proud to participate in Mercer's awarding Gregg an honorary doctorate, and will attend the funeral to show my respect and concern".


"He was looking forward to sharing it with the world and that dream is going to be realized", Lehman said.
