Machado back in Orioles' lineup

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles.

Davidson leads the White Sox with 12 homers in 163 at-bats.

Matt Davidson has never been able to pimp one of his home runs.

The Orioles also recalled right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro from Double-A Bowie and optioned right-hander Logan Verrett to Triple-A Norfolk.

Manny Machado continued his strong series with an RBI single in the first inning on Tuesday, but it was all downhill from there as the Orioles dropped a 6-1 decision to fall to 10-22 away from Camden Yards. Melky Cabrera and Abreu singled to put runners on first and second.

"That swing felt pretty good", Davidson said. Both scored on Garcia's double to left center for a 2-1 White Sox lead. He popped up only as Manager Buck Showalter trotted out to the mound to end his day, perhaps a bit tardy. "The last inning, I kind of maybe tried to do a little too much and fell behind some hitters and made a mistake". Kevan Smith hit his first career homer against left-hander Wade Miley and knocked in another run with an RBI with a sacrifice fly, and Avisail Garcia celebrated his 26 birthday with a double, single, three RBI (giving him 45 this season) and a stolen base before five innings were complete. Davidson worked the count to 3-2 and cracked a fastball deep into the left-field bleachers, a blast estimated at 438 feet.

"I am not one to be happy striking out", Davidson said.

NOTES: There was no official word Tuesday but Orioles slugger Chris Davis appears bound for the disabled list after suffering an oblique injury in Monday's loss to the White Sox.

That was it for Asher, who allowed six runs on six hits, walked two and struck out one over five-plus innings.

The Orioles swept the White Sox in three early May games in Baltimore and take on host Chicago in four games this week. The White Sox are just 1-7 in Gonzalez' last eight starts. Orioles RHP Dylan Bundy (6-5, 3.05) is holding opponents to a.238 batting average this season. LHP Carlos Rodon (left biceps bursitis) is scheduled to make his second rehab start for Charlotte (third overall) on Saturday.
