The announcement was made after the Community Effort 2017 tournament that took place in Orlando, Florida.

This move will mean people using older versions of Windows, and those who have an aversion to Microsoft's store, will be able to play it too.

Announced via Twitter from the official Killer Instinct account, the game will be juggling its way on over to Valve's digital distribution service sometime later this year. Thanks to @CEOJebailey for helping us break the news.

Developer Iron Galaxy has confirmed the Killer Instinct Steam release.

2013's Killer Instinct was originally only available on the Xbox One, but a Windows 10 version followed in 2016, arriving alongside the game's third season of content. We also do not know why Iron Galaxy chose to release Killer Instinct via Steam after all this time, but fans will not be complaining about this good turn of events, that's for sure.

Killer Instinct finished its third season past year but new content is still on the way. Not only that, how much the game will cost on Steam is also something to look forward to.

Killer Instinct is often held in a bit of a tragic light in the sense that it's one of the most gamer-friendly fighting games out there, but that its potential was a bit stifled due to its Xbox One-exclusive release.
