Firefighters battle blaze at low-rise building in east London

The blaze comes after at least 79 people were killed when an inferno ripped through Grenfell Tower in West London, as emergency checks are carried out on tower blocks across the country.

"The brigade was called at 4.25pm".

Residents are believed to have been evacuated from the building.

The fire has destroyed a flat and the entire building's roof.


According to reports this evening over 50 firefighters in the London district of Bethnal Green are now putting out a fire that has broken out at block flats.

That fire at Grenfell Tower spread rapidly, turning the burning building into a giant torch and terrifying residents.

Thick black smoke poured into the sky as firefighters fought the blaze which broke out in a third floor flat.

Bethan Green Road is now closed as firefighters tackle the blaze.


The cause of the fire is not yet known.

One man suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to hospital.

"The whole of a flat on the third floor and roof is also alight".
