He continued, wishing for the speedy recovery of Republican Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, congressional staffers and Capitol Police Officers who were shot.

Hodgkinson, who worked as a building inspector, volunteered for the Mr Sanders' unsuccessful presidential campaign past year. Sanders says in a statement: "I am sickened by this despicable act". Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.

Capitol Hill Police officer Nathan Rainey stands guard on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, June 14, 2017, after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of La. was shot during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.

Two now-inaccessible Facebook accounts under the name of James Hodgkinson and purporting to be located in Belleville, Ill., were full of posts supporting Sanders and opposing President Trump. Media reports said the 66-year-old owned a home inspection business. St. Clair County Court documents and an accompanying police report describe a confrontation between Hodgkinson and a young couple at his home.

There was even a man who went to a pizzeria in Washington and fired shots inside because he believed a completely fabricated story about a child-sex ring.

The FBI says it is actively investigating Hodgkinson's "associates, whereabouts, social media impressions, and potential motivations".

A review of his online posts stretching back several years found that his public posts were nearly exclusively about politics, and that they often sharply criticized Republican politicians and policies. Records from the Illinois Department of Federal and Professional Regulation show that Hodgkinson held an inspection license from February 2003 to November 2016.

He also wrote a slew of letters to the editor of his local paper, the Belleville News-Democrat.

He showed no previous signs of violent extremism and his attack shocked people who knew him as "Hodges", a popular, "laid-back" blue-collar worker in his hometown of Belleville, Illinois.

Meanwhile, Scalise was wounded in the hip and had surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. At one point, Euille, who works as a general contractor since he lost his re-election race past year, said that Hodgkinson asked him about available jobs. "Otherwise we would just be a bunch of guys out there on a normal morning, practicing", said Rep.

His timeline was headed by a cover photo of Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont who ran unsuccessfully to be the Democratic Party's presidential candidate a year ago.

At a news conference this morning with Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe, he brought up background checks and closing gun-show loopholes (before anything was publicly known about the shooter).

The post Attack on USA lawmakers: what we know appeared first on The Independent Uganda:. "I do think that things have become very partisan and very hardened in the country today", he said.

Dale Walsh, 65, of Belleville, said he was a lifelong friend of Hodgkinson's.

Witnesses said the shooter was able to get off about 50 rounds before the bloodshed came to an end.

Over the last several weeks, Hodgkinson spent time at a YMCA near the site of the shooting, sitting with a computer in the lobby or at a table in an exercise area that overlooked the baseball field.
