They say he sexually abused them decades ago and then defamed them after they went public by having his agents deny the claims and brand them liars.

Gasps could be heard in the courtroom as District Attorney Kevin Steele said he intends to retry the case.

He remains free on bail pending the new trial.

"In most instances, the prosecution is going to take that case to trial again", she said.

To her, the mistrial underscored how hard it is for rape victims to get justice in the court system; she was disappointed that the defense lawyers made their case by attacking Constand's credibility.

But victims say that there isn't sufficient awareness about how such a power differential can be used to an attacker's advantage - particularly when it comes to persuading them to abandon their judgment.

Around 60 women have publicly accused the Emmy-winning actor in recent years of being a serial sexual predator, alleging that he drugged and assaulted them over a span of 40 years across the United States. Prosecutors are saying they will retry the case on all counts.

'How do I describe the district attorney?

The jury that said it was "hopelessly deadlocked" on Saturday was selected in Pittsburgh, then bused to suburban Philadelphia and sequestered during 11 days of testimony and deliberations.

It is also possible that one or more key witnesses, exhausted and/or discouraged by the lengthy trial and the perceived harm to their image, will not agree to cooperate in any new trial. But Camille Cosby's criticism of him was puzzling because he issued an all-important pretrial ruling that seemed to help the defence and dealt a crushing blow to prosecutors.

Television producer Andy Lassner tweeted: "To all the women who say Bill Cosby drugged, raped or assaulted you: I BELIEVE YOU". Time will tell whether prosecutors will bring another case against the famed TV comedian. Overtly arrogant and collaborating with the district attorney'. She also criticized the judge, the accuser's lawyers and the media.

The jury deliberated more than 52 hours on charges that Cosby drugged and molested Andrea Constand in his Philadelphia area home in 2004.

Did the jury have trouble navigating the three felony indecent sexual assault charges?

"I have been greatly concerned for his health, I don't know if I can survive what he survived this week", Cosby's lawyer, Brian McMonagle, told CNN.

TMZ reports that after more than five days of deliberations the jury was unable to unanimously reach a verdict on any of the three sexual assault counts.

A USA judge declared a mistrial Saturday in Bill Cosby's sexual assault case with the jury deadlocked on whether the disgraced star drugged and molested a woman in 2004, as prosecutors vowed to seek a retrial.

Cosby, 79, the comedian once known as "America's Dad", didn't testify during the trial in Norristown, Pa.

Agrusa, in a painstaking cross-examination, sought to portray Constand as a woman who had changed her story so often she should not be believed. In 2005, prosecutors declined to charge Cosby based on Constand's account, and she filed a lawsuit that Cosby settled for an undisclosed sum. His lawyers said they were in a romantic relationship and what happened was consensual.

The trial jury was not able to come to a unanimous, or even majority, decision regarding the case involving the alleged victim, Andrea Constand. Cosby admitted under oath that he procured sedatives for the goal of giving them to young women with whom he wanted to have sex. Cosby's team, at least, saw this case through a defeat-the-rigged-system lens, as many blacks viewed Simpson's 1995 verdict.
