The 28-year-old is the club's top earner on £140,000 a week but is now engaged in a contract stand-off with Arsenal having refused to sign a £250,000 a week extension.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are thought to be heading the interest in the South American, while Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester City have also been touted as potential destinations.

Juan Antonio Pizzi claims that forward Alexis Sanchez is only focused on helping Chile to Confederations Cup glory, rather than his uncertain Arsenal future. "This is related to what I have said before".

"Arsene and Arsenal know what they have to do to keep him".

It is, therefore, no surprise that Sanchez wants out at Arsenal with clubs such as Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester City prowling around.

Petit, a Premier League victor with Arsenal in 1998, believes Wenger is ready to change his typical approach and spend big money in the close-season.

The 28-year-old finished as Arsenal's top goal-scorer in the Premier League last season after a return of 24 goals in 38 games in the top flight. "I had the privilege to play with many great players, but those two stick out".

"I'm sure some players will come in soon and next season will be totally different for Wenger and Arsenal".

His pace and direct nature have long interested some of Europe's biggest clubs, though Atletico have been reluctant to field offers for one of their key men. Financially they have got no problems so if you don't put the money on the table then you need the academy to help the first team.

"That's not enough, you need a winning mentality and this is something rare in football".
