In a separate report, the Independent noted Hulot and French President Emmanuel Macron met with actor and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, on June 23 to discuss global warming.

"I would like to note that France is ready to continue efforts in the Normandy format and we are ready to hold a new discussion within the Normandy format", Macron said in Paris on Monday at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

"It is absolutely imperative that we not make it a political issue", he said after meeting Macron on Friday. "Glad to work on it with @schwarzenegger".

FRANCE is to stop granting licences for oil and gas exploration as part of a transition towards environmentally-friendly energy being driven by Emmanuel Macron's government.

In June, after Trump withdrew the United States from the climate accord, France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs altered a Trump administration video that justified the action into one that criticised it. "And one man can't go back in time - only I can do that", he added, referencing his time-traveling cyborg character in Terminator.

Mr Macron has been critical of the United States president's decision to withdraw from the 2015 Paris climate agreement.

It ends with Macron bringing out his new catchphrase: "We will deliver together to make the planet great again". "Because we are fully committed, because wherever we live, whoever we are, we all share the same responsibility: Make our planet great again". Over the years, he has tweeted remarks denying its existence, including once posting, "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive". "I honestly haven't asked him that specific question". "We already have two worldwide [human rights] pacts".

But Mr Schwarzenegger in his campaigning to fight climate change said it must not be a partisan political issue.
