76ers get No. 1 pick from Celtics, chance to draft Fultz

If the Celtics felt Fultz isn't the draft's surefire best player, acquiring another pick with the player they crave would be smart and give them a bit more cap room, with a No. 3 pick being cheaper to sign than a No. 1. Ainge will be praying that the 2018 and 2019 draft classes can produce another future star that can match the caliber of Markelle Fultz.

Philadelphia will hold the No. 1 pick for the second straight year, and worked Fultz out on Saturday night as talks with the Celtics got to the final stages.

"We're taking the next step in formulating a solid young core of players that will ultimately lead to a successful and sustainable product", Colangelo said. All this would do is push Boston's first round draft pick to the 2019 draft. Players are still working out for teams and teams are still trying to make deals.

That is why I think that the recently acquired 2017 third-overall pick will be shipped to Chicago (possibly alongside Avery Bradley) for Bulls superstar Jimmy Butler.

Boston will receive the 2018 first-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers - if that selection falls between the No 2 to No 5 range.

Lonzo Ball of UCLA is expected to go No. 2 to the Lakers, although the sides have yet to reach agreement on a deal.

"Well it's never easy negotiating with Boston because they're smart guys - and I'm talking about [Celtics assistant general manager] Mike Zarren and not Danny Ainge, by the way", Colangelo said.

Paul George and the Cleveland Cavaliers: Woj: "In the past 24 hours, Pritchard has become more aggressive in pursuing trades for George, league sources told The Vertical". That first round pick will be either the 2019 Kings selection or the 2019 Sixers selection, whichever one is the higher pick, with one very important protection. While fans wanted to see Isaiah Thomas and Markelle Fultz share the court in Boston, the trade just made more sense.

The thinking behind the trade, largely, is that the player the Sixers mosts covets in this year's draft - point guard Markelle Fultz, would not be available by pick 3, whereas the players the Celtics are circling - forward Josh Jackson and forward Jayson Tatum - nearly certainly will still be available at pick 3.

Los Angeles now holds the second and 28th picks in the first round.

Ainge added, "We'll get a player we like in addition to further assets".

National Basketball Association analysts are predicting that Philadelphia is trying to make a "Big 3", with Fultz, Ben Simmons, and Joel Embiid as their core three players. Fultz, 19, averaged 23.2 points (47.6 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three), 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds last season.
