The bureau says the two deputies who were injured Monday are undergoing medical treatment.

"A short time later, about two blocks away from the courthouse, as officers were in pursuit, he stopped and he shot himself in the head".

Deputy Wade Bassett is rushed to an ambulance following the incident at the justice center. He was scheduled to appear at a hearing on charges of domestic-related kidnapping and evading arrest. Knott said one deputy was shot in the stomach.

The last time a deputy was involved in a shooting in Coffee County was in 2015.

At some point during the transfer, a "significant struggle" ensued, Northcott said. Another injured his hand, but it was not clear if he was shot or hurt in the scuffle.

Two Coffee County Sheriff's deputies were injured in a shooting at the courthouse, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported Monday afternoon.

Bell then ran through streets nearby and entered at least one house before departing out the back and into an adjacent yard.

Bell then fled on foot, and, as Northcutt described, "as he was exiting the building, in a very unnecessary and cowardly way, he shot another deputy on his way out". He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Deputy Bowen underwent surgery.

The Tennessee Bureau of Identification is investigating, and have confirmed that the inmate has died.

TBI tweeted that their preliminary investigation indicated that the shooter was dead.

The District Attorney General said the courthouse would be closed Tuesday. "Our violent crime response team will also be working two primary crime scenes - one at the courthouse and the other at 701 Madison St.", Gwyn said. Knott said the suspect may have been injured with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
