Arsenal suffered a humiliating 10-2 aggregate defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League, leading to months of protests from supporters calling for Wenger to end his 21-year reign.

"It's the board who has to decide who will lead the club in the future". I know my mind.

"Outside of the game I never had any word with any journalist in 20 years when they criticised my decisions and it is the same with the fans".

Even so, Arsenal are believed to be still keen to appoint a sporting director, allowing Wenger to delegate duties such as scouting and contract re-negotiations.

"He's the greatest Arsenal manager ever so it would be sad if that was spoilt". I was delighted for him on Saturday [after being Chelsea in the FA Cup final].

The "Wenger Out" brigade was silenced over the weekend after the Gunners beat Chelsea to lift the FA Cup final, however Wenger's stay at the club is set to coincide with some changes.

But veteran German defender Mertesacker came in for his first start of the season as Chelsea failed to find the attacking fluency which swept them to the Premier League title.

Sanchez said: "I don't know my friend, finished now, so happy for the win and the FA Cup, happy for the players, now I don't know". "I invite you to live with me one day and one thing you can not question is my commitment".

A number of other fans appeared to forget how their clubs had fared against Arsenal this season.

"That's why I said it's not about popularity, it's about effect".

"Otherwise, it is total incompetence to get to this stage".

BBC and BT Sport pundit Gary Lineker has claimed that Arsenal have a "long way to go" if they want to match their competitors once again.

"With no-one to step in, it will now be a disaster if Arsene goes".

Midfielder Ramsey, however, has made it clear he wants Wenger to stay and highlighted the Frenchman's switch to a three-man defence late in the season as the key to Arsenal's FA Cup glory.
