Persuading him to stay, maybe against his will, will be a tough challenge, but Arsenal are a big club and now is the time to act like one. On the day, not enough players turned up, they did not deserve to win. They showed strength, unity and we played spectacular football here again today.

Chelsea skipper John Terry, who will leave the club at the end of the season after 22 years, said that anything other than a win would tarnish their achievements.

Chelsea had been hot favourites to complete a remarkable debut season for manager Antonio Conte but were not at their clinical best as Arsenal, who finished fifth in the league, lifted the Cup for the third time in four seasons.

"We had an outstanding performance from the first minute onwards", he said.

"A lot has been said about the manager but the team gave the right answer today", said the World Cup victor.

When Alexis Sanchez put the ball in the net after four minutes, it was initially disallowed when Aaron Ramsey was adjudged to be interfering with play while offside.

Chelsea improved after the break but had to play the final quarter of the match with 10 men after Victor Moses received his second yellow card following a blatant dive in the area. Somehow, though, Diego Costa managed to equalize in the 76th, bringing down Willian's lofted ball on his chest and striking past David Ospina. Conte's tactic was clearly all about overpowering Arsenal, beating them with a sledgehammer rather than with flair, but it backfired.

On an afternoon when so much bucked the story of the season, double player of the year N'Golo Kante failed to track Ramsey, who was left unmarked to meet Olivier Giroud's dinked pass back.

It doesn't get any more prestigious than the FA Cup. It would have also been a flawless way for the Blues to wrap up their season, as it was a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in September that that focused Chelsea to adapt their strategy early on in the Premiership.

"We stuck in there when it looks like things were against us", he said.
