Three people, including a deputy, have been shot dead in the USA state of Arkansas and the suspect has been taken into custody, police authorities say.

At 7:18 a.m. Thursday, Mainhart performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was related to a disturbance call at a home on Gum Springs Road, police said. Mainhart was responding to a call about a disturbance at the home when he spotted a vehicle associated with that address and stopped it.

Authorities say a gunman has fatally shot the police chief of an OH village and two nursing home employees. Mainhart and two other women.

The suspect has been identified as James Bowden, 32, of Dardanelle.

Bowden released McHam to law enforcement and surrendered.

CBS affiliate WTHV reports that Lieutenant Kevin C. Mainhart, 46, of the Yell County Sheriff's Department, was fatally shot during a traffic stop Thursday morning in Dardanelle, about 65 miles west of Little Rock. That deputy was fatally shot during the traffic stop, and when officers arrived at the location of the initial disturbance call, they found two more people dead, Sadler said.

My thoughts and prayers are with friends and family of Lt. Mainhart and the other victims of the tragedy in Yell County today.

The deputy was found by a passerby who notified police.

James Michael Bowden is facing three counts of Capital Murder. After several hours, the suspect let the hostage go and he was arrested. He said the woman who had been held hostage was the girlfriend.

He is being held at the Conway County jail, said a detention center official.

Region 8 law enforcement agencies were among many who showed support to the Yell County Sheriff's Office after a deputy was killed.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson expressed "deepest sympathies" to Mainhart's family and the sheriff's department he left behind.
