Canada's prime minister said Friday that he plans to be respectful and engage the United States with a fact-based approach to solving problems a day after President Donald Trump called Canada a "disgrace" for policies that hurt American farmers.

"I don't see a role in Libya", Mr. Trump flatly responded at joint press conference at the White House, following the two leader's first face-to-face meeting. "I think the United States right now has enough roles", Trump responded. Trump appeared to have been reading from a prepared speech praising Italy's "artistic and scientific achievement that continues today", when he suddenly went off script, as he is wont to do.

The trip to Europe is to be Trump's first foreign trip as president.

"We are effectively ridding the world of ISIS". "We are very happy to have Aya back home and it's a great honor to have her in the Oval Office", Trump said.

Fox News reporter John Roberts asked Gentiloni.

But though Trump defined the U.S. and Italy as "vital allies", particularly when it came to fighting terror, he appeared to disagree with Gentiloni on the role of the United States in stabilizing Libya.

The US played a key role in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation bombing campaign that helped rebels oust Moammar Gadhafi, the Libyan leader, in 2011. "A divided country and in conflict would make civility worse", the prime minister added. That was evident most recently with his public statements promising China a "better" trade arrangement if Beijing cracks down on North Korea.

They took pains not to offend the man most closely associated with the growing popularity of protectionist trade measures and closed borders: Trump.

Gentiloni noted past US missions to help drive ISIS from Sirte previous year, and said that "now the commitment must be political" in broadening the basis of consensus for the unity government recognized by the worldwide community to include countries like Egypt and Tunisia.

At the Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF) this week, Italian lawmaker and member of the Italian delegation of businessmen and politicians Stefano Valdegamberi said that the Italian business community wants Russian Federation to be an equal partner in the European economic cooperation.

Trump favors bilateral trade deals and has used trade as a tool for pressuring countries to do more on national security matters. Noting the 30,000 U.S. soldiers stationed in Italy, Trump said that Italians should "pay their full and fair share for the cost of defense".

"We will help it be strong, and it's very much to everybody's advantage", Trump said. Italy does not yet devote 2 percent of its GDP to defense spending, but Gentiloni emphasized that Italy's contribution is increasing.
