Jason Day prepared for emotional overload if he wins Masters

Johnson climbed to the top of the world rankings earlier this year following a stellar 2016 season in which he won the U.S. Open, and the American has triumphed in his last three tournament appearances this year.

There was, as anticipated, a Tiger Woods sighting at Augusta National Tuesday night. The trio tees off at 9:34 a.m. central daylight time Thursday.

Okay, well, if you believe the ability to skip a golf ball off the pond at the 16th hole is any indication.

Three years ago, Tommy Fleetwood came to Augusta National as a fan.

The sting is still there.

"Mom told me go out and just play". "That would be insane".

Luck played his way in to the first Major of the season by winning the US Amateur title in August previous year in dominant fashion, followed by a spectacular come from behind win in the Asian Pacific Amateur Championship in October.

Instead, he was reminiscing again about the biggest disappointment of his young, flourishing career.

Five-stroke lead halfway home to back-to-back wins.

For Nicklaus, it will be a bittersweet moment when he steps to the first tee just after sunrise without Palmer by his side.

"I would have liked to have won more".

"When you're paired up, he has been there and you don't feel like you have that major championship winning edge", Spieth said. "It's one of many tournaments I've lost given a certain performance on a hole or a stretch of holes". It happens in this game.

But his emotions were admittedly confused when he drove up Magnolia Lane the first time he returned after last year's collapse. "Obviously, it's not the tournament".

Very little of it was about golf - yet one more reminder that when it comes to athletes' personal lives, we're not in Kansas anymore.

He's played this tournament three times and never finished lower than second. Then I played one back on the second nine.

Even the hole where it all fell apart has provided plenty of good vibes.

And he certainly has the talent to win golf's first major after coming close the past two years. "But, hey, it's tough out here, but I'm enjoying the ride".

Luck has got his eye in playing practice rounds with Scott and Jason Day and on Tuesday he shared the fairways with Rory McIlroy.

A severe thunderstorm closed the course for more than an hour and forced evacuation of the course even before the tornado warning shut down the course the remainder of the day.

"So far, I would say under". "It's imaginative golf. It's feel golf".

"I was kind of like walking in there, not really concentrating at all because of the situation", he recalled. "When I go away from technical and toward feel, it's an advantage for me".

"I heard he had switched to a fade, and then I saw it", Zach Johnson said.

The Queenslander had Williams on the bag in Houston which he said was a sensible decision compared with past year when the pair reunited at Augusta without a lead-in event to reacquaint.

"I will do all I can to see all the positives and to grind it out like we did in 2015".

Jordan Spieth isn't playing his best and isn't anywhere near where we know he can perform, but something happens to players when they drive down to Magnolia Lane.

But he's not afraid of Amen Corner.

"That bodes well around this golf course", Fowler said.
