On Monday, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote to send the Gorsuch nomination to the full Senate.

Trump won IN by 19 points, West Virginia by more than 40 points and North Dakota by 35 points.

Tester said Gorsuch's history of women's health issues, as well as the Colorado justice's views on corporations having the same First Amendment rights as people weren deal breakers.

"What I'm telling you is that judge Gorsuch is going to be confirmed", Mr McConnell said.

You have promised that the Senate will confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court by Friday.

Donnelly, Manchin and Heitkamp are among a small group of moderate Democrats who sometimes vote with Republicans on legislation and presidential nominations. "However, I believe that we should keep the current 60-vote threshold for Supreme Court nominees".

On Sunday evening, Democratic Senator Jon Tester declared he would vote against Gorsuch. I think during the course of the week we'll find out exactly how this will end.

Republicans hold 52 of the Senate's 100 seats, leaving them eight short of being able to stop a filibuster but as of Sunday (2 April), they were slightly closer to that target. In the 19th century, the Senate a couple of times took no action on Supreme Court nominations, in a few instances keeping vacancies open for years.

Adam Jentleson, senior strategic adviser to the liberal Center for American Progress, said that progressives may not have felt as compelled to fight the Gorsuch nomination this year. Three Democrats, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of IN, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia, have announced support for Gorsuch. Claire McCaskill of Missouri - from states President Donald Trump won easily, predicting political consequences if they vote against his high court nominee.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., is leading the effort to filibuster Gorsuch.

Although Donnelly says he's disappointed President Barack Obama's nominee, Merrick Garland, wasn't considered by the GOP-controlled Senate previous year, the Hoosier Democrat says, "I can only vote on the nominee that comes to the ... floor".

But Schumer and many other Democrats in the Senate soured on Gorsuch throughout two grueling days of testimony and private meetings.

McConnell said Republicans and Democrats will negotiate about the Trump administration's priorities: funding to build a wall on the United States border with Mexico, cuts to domestic programs, and increases in military spending. McConnell has said that if it's necessary he will push for a change in the rules in order to allow Supreme Court nominees to be confirmed with a simple majority vote rather than the 60 needed now.

But in anticipation of a tough 2018 fight, the DSCC has already run ads in IN criticizing Republicans' health care bill. Please do not support the "nuclear option".

Two Democratic senators on Sunday split over supporting Judge Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the Supreme Court.
