Burnley: Martial and Rooney start as Rashford is benched

Man Utd's win over Chelsea last weekend brought Tottenham back into the title race, and they are six points behind Liverpool (who are third) with two games in hand. This was their 23rd unbeaten game in the Premier League.

The Burnley goalkeeper, man of the match when the teams drew 0-0 at Old Trafford, soon denied a Marouane Fellaini header as Robbie Brady and Ben Mee had attempts for the hosts.

Martial's goal was his eighth - fifth in the Premier League - of what has at times been a frustrating season under Jose Mourinho.

"In terms of the bigger picture I'd have thought that's the end of Wayne at Manchester United", Keane told ITV after the game on Thursday.

Burnley has one of the strongest home records in the league and Mourinho made eight changes to the team that beat Anderlecht 2-1, making the prospect of an upset somewhat likelier.

"Andre had been playing but came out last week, so he will be fresh, and we have different options in midfield to consider if we choose to go that way", said Dyche.

With Burnley having players forward for a set piece, Martial collected the ball and flicked it past Joey Barton deep inside his own half.

Martial responded to those recent public criticisms by starting, and finishing, a goal of devastating pace and simplicity after 21 minutes.

Burnley saw Swansea and Hull beneath them both win and were unable to increase the five-point gap that now separates them from the bottom three. It was Martial's 25th for Manchester United and as such triggered a further £8.5m payment to Monaco, who have done rather well without him. It was the first league game this year that Manchester United's captain has started and finished.

Substitutes not used: Pope, Flanagan, Defour, Westwood.

Burnley rarely looked likely to make a comeback and United were able to conserve energy in the second half after their exertions against Anderlecht in the Europa League, though they may have another injury concern to contend with after Paul Pogba limped off late on. Fosu-Mensah has also been building momentum lately, taking Bastian Schweinsteiger's place in the squad after the German left for Chicago Fire.
