Aamir, who was invited by Lata Mangeshkar, recently attended the award ceremony, held to commemorate her father's 75th death anniversary.

Mumbai: Bollywood star Aamir Khan broke his record of not attending award functions for Master Dinananth Mangeshkar Awards. The honour was for his performance in Dangal, one of the biggest hits of 2016. He played the role of Mahavir Phogat, former wrestler who trained his daughters Geeta and Babita in wrestling.

Mumbai: Actors Vaijayanti Mala, Aamir Khan and singer Lata Mangeshkar during the Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Purashkar in Mumbai on April 24, 2017.

The reason is the legendary Lata Mangeshkar.

The director, who often gets embroiled in controversies due to his remarks, tweeted on Sunday that "Aamir doesn't care to be measured by any Indian award committee including National (Film Awards)". "I would also like to say that whatever I am today, the whole credit goes to all the writers whose films I have worked in". "I thank all of them", Aamir said after receiving the award.

The awards are given out by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Snagh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat in a ceremony that also had Lata Mangeshkar in attendance.

But after 16 years of wait, we will again see Aamir Khan sizzling at an award function.

What a co-incidence, just when Ram Gopal Varma commented on Aamir's absence from the award functions, the Dangal actor makes his mind to break the rule.

Kapil Dev was given the award for his outstanding contribution to the Indian cricket.
