The Israelis demanded that Sufian point out children who have thrown stones at Kiryat Arba, one of Israel's settlements in the occupied West Bank, all of which are illegal under worldwide law.

"The United Nations will continue to call on and work with the parties and all interested stakeholders to find a just, sustainable and comprehensive resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the relevant Security Council resolutions", he concluded.

"Both the Israeli and the Palestinian people have the right to live in peace and security and none of the other options can deliver that credibly", she said, according to Reuters.

"It is clear from what the US representative said today that the USA administration is continuing to develop its thinking on some of the points of detail" about settlements and a peace negotiation, British U.N. Ambassador Matthew Rycroft told reporters.

During that month, he said, two major announcements were made for a total of 5,500 housing units in Area C, the 60 percent of the West Bank exclusively controlled by Israel.

The new administration has been slow to curb Israeli settlement announcements and has yet to set a clear policy on the subject.

Following the second rounds of talks that ended Thursday, a senior Israeli official said, "We have a clearer understanding of where and how the White House wants to see us build". "Any purported US demands of Israel in talks regarding the settlements during Mr. Greenblatt's visit, are false", the officials said.

Israel has ignored a United Nations resolution demanding it halt settlement building in the occupied Palestinian territory that was criticized by the Trump administration, the world body's Middle East envoy said on Friday.

By declining to use its veto, the United States enabled the adoption of the first U.N. resolution since 1979 to condemn Israel over its settlement policy.

The White House expression of concern over settlements allows Netanyahu to push back against the settlers, arguing that any expansion would alienate Israel's closest ally.

Much of the worldwide community has raised increasing alarm over settlement expansion, saying it is gradually eating away at prospects for a two-state solution to the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Hebron, the largest Palestinian city in the West Bank, has been a flashpoint for decades, including in the recent wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence.

According to the report, Greenblatt said that the USA would accept Israeli construction in Jewish neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem and construction in agreed-upon settlement blocs, but with an annual quota.
