Two Detroit Police officers shot, suspect caught

"We are able to charge this case today because of the round-the-clock collaboration with the Detroit Police Department, the Michigan State Police, and many others who worked tirelessly on this case", Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said at a morning news conference that Raymond Durham, 60, the suspect in the shooting earlier this week, has not been formally charged in Rose's murder and "this does not signify closure" in the investigation. "The one officer who had the more significant injuries; he said to me as I leaned over his bed: 'I believe that the suspect who shot us is the suspect who shot Collin Rose'".

Now the DNA evidence links both the DPD officer's shooting to the murder of Wayne State Police Sgt. Colin Rose. Durham allegedly shot two police officers Wednesday night after they stopped him because he was seen acting "fidgety" as they investigated possible narcotics activity on the city's West Side.

The suspect then fled a few blocks away, Craig said.

"We received telephonic information of a positive DNA match", Craig said.

Police say a man arrested in the shootings of two Detroit police officers is now a "prime suspect" in the death of a college officer.

The two DPD officers are at Detroit Receiving. One is a 20-year veteran of the police force, and his partner is a four-year veteran, police said.

Craig said police learned Thursday evening of the positive DNA match, adding, "because this investigation is continuing I will not go into any details". Shortly before 11 p.m. that night, police located Durham at Vinewood and Michigan Avenue and arrested him.

Police sent a warrant request to the Wayne County prosecutor's office, but a decision about charges had not been made as of Thursday afternoon, a prosecutor's spokeswoman said.

Craig told WWJ-AM on Thursday morning that he expects the man to be charged.

The shooting occurred near where Wayne State University officer Collin Rose was fatally shot in November.
