Suns' Booker scores 70 in loss

Devin Booker however has been one of the very few bright spots for Phoenix this year.

It was also the most points ever scored by a player against the Celtics and as the game headed towards its climax, the Boston fans began to cheer Booker on.

He went out of his way to call out Devin Booker and got punked one more time before the night was over.

The reactions to Devin Booker's 70-point game came in waves: first, curiosity - Devin Booker scored how many? It was just two and a half weeks ago when the Suns scored five points in the last four seconds and shocked the Celtics in Phoenix.

A noted three-point shooter, Booker also accomplished this feat while only hitting four shots from beyond the arc.

On a night where Booker only hit 4 three pointers (only 36 percent from beyond the arc), he found other ways to put the ball in the basket, scoring 24 from the free throw line (shooting 92 percent from the line) as well as hitting mid-range jumpers and getting to the basket easily (21/40 from the field, 53 percent).

Booker joined Wilt Chamberlain, David Robinson, David Thompson, Elgin Baylor and Kobe Bryant as players to have scored at least 70 points in one game.

"That's why, like I've said before, I'm surprised at where we are record-wise because we've got to play at a higher level for 48 minutes", Stevens said.

The Phoenix Suns, now at 22-51, are not going to the National Basketball Association playoffs, though with their incredible youth, they would probably be right at home in the in-progress NCAA Tournament, as our own Dan Russo covered recently.

Booker then scored 51 after halftime, including 28 in the final period as his teammates fed him nearly every time down the floor. "We were trying to run up my points". But I mean it was obvious what they were trying to do. And hat off to him, though.

Watson was still calling timeouts with under 45 seconds left and his team down 13 points to try getting Booker to 70 points. Justin Hamilton scored 20 points for the Nets.

CHICAGO - The 76ers only had 10 players in uniform but still beat Chicago, which had won the last 12 games against Philadelphia. The Suns lost to the Boston Celtics 130-120, but that fact will most likely not be remembered years from now. During the final minute, they fouled Boston twice to earn extra possessions and called a pair of timeouts to advance the ball to halfcourt - all so Booker could become the first player to reach the 70-point barrier since Kobe Bryant did so with 81 points on January 22, 2006.

A lot of finicky people who probably talk a lot about how they don't have a television because they like to "unplug" say he didn't get it in the natural course of the game.

"I didn't see it, I just heard it this morning, " Mavs guard J. J. Barea said.

The same thing happened for David Thompson, who scored 73 points on the final game of the season. "We just could never get over the hump". The Celtics will continue their six-game home stand on Sunday when they host the Heat at TD Garden.
