Jones said Trump's tribute to Navy SEAL Ryan Owens, who died in a raid in Yemen, was "one of the most extraordinary moments you have ever seen in American politics, period" and that it was the moment Trump "became President of the United States".

For almost two minutes, lawmakers from around the country attending President Donald Trump's first address to a joint session of Congress, gave her a standing ovation as she teared up.

William "Ryan" Owens was among more than two dozen people killed during the January raid - the first armed services mission ordered by Trump as commander-in-chief.

"We are blessed to be joined tonight by Carryn Owens, the widow of a U.S. Navy Special Operator, Senior Chief William "Ryan" Owens," Trump said.

"Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero - battling against terrorism and securing our nation", Trump said after speaking about the dedication of men and women in uniform. "Ryan's legacy is etched into eternity".

February 9: "It's absolutely a success, and I think anyone who would suggest it's not a success does disservice to the life of Chief Ryan Owens".

Doocy reminded Trump that Bill Owens had refused to talk to him when the family greeted the Navy SEAL's coffin at Dover and asked the new president how that made him feel.

At a press conference Monday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said the Department of Defense will conduct three reviews of the raid. You remember. [.] America never lost.

The father also called for an investigation into his son's death and additionally said he was troubled by Trump's treatment of the Khans, a Gold Star family of a Muslim soldier killed in Iraq. I saw that face again, years later, when we gathered to honor my friend, and a neighbor silently walked into the family's front yard and played a heartbreaking, handsome rendition of "Amazing Grace" on his bagpipes.

Both Democrats slammed Trump's comments on proposed repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, the signature legislative achievement of President Obama.

They've also pushed back against reports from NBC News citing military sources who say little information of value was recovered from the mission, and other news reports suggesting that higher-level targets were missed in the attack.

Trump's response to the Yemen raid has become a flashpoint as new details have emerged. "I told them I don't want to meet the president".

"I can understand people saying that", Trump said.

NBC News reported Monday, citing unnamed senior US officials, that the raid had produced no "actionable intelligence". The elder Owens questioned the timing of the operation, just six days into Trump's administration, and the use of boots on the ground.
