Parrikar said the Congress leader had sought to create a hype over the situation in state as he was anxious about losing his party post if he failed in the number game.

"As a strategy I had proposed a secular alliance with regional party headed by Babush Monserratte and Goa Forward headed by Vijai Sardesai", Singh said in a series of tweets. "They have betrayed the trust of Goa by not forming the government despite people giving them a clear mandate", Rane told PTI.

Singh also tried to bring the Goa Forward Party on board, but that plan failed.

"Still Digvijaya guilty? I leave it to you to judge", the senior Congress leader said.

"Now after this massive victory (of the BJP) in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and even in Manipur, the Congress is yet to learn lessons and is making absurd allegations".

He said the Congress Legislative Party leader for Punjab was decided on 13 March and for Manipur and Goa on 12 March. "If we are allowed, we can prove our majority on the floor of the House", CLP leader Chandrakant Kavlekar said after the meeting.

"And the manner in which things are going on in the Congress and the poor manner with which the general secretaries are handling it, aggressive leaders like me, will quit the Congress across the country".

Rane's disappearance from the vote count embarrassed the Congress, which had claimed that it had the numbers to form a government in Goa.

Without taking any name, he said, "A senior Hindi TV Journalist who has a flat in Goa and who was very active for Congress in 2012 election predicted a clean sweep for AAP".

Building up to his resignation on Thursday, Vishwajit Rane had begun criticising the Congress leadership soon after the BJP, with 13 MLAs, was able to cobble together a coalition and form the government 24 hours after the March 11 results.

Rane said the Goa Forward Party, whose three MLAs later extended support to Manohar Parrikar and which had contested the election on anti-BJP plank, wanted former chief minister Digambar Kamat to be elected as the Congress Legislature Party leader and not Luizinho Faleiro. Manohar Parrikar taking charge as the Chief Minister was so expected. "Those who have carried out such experiments should not sermonise us, it is wrong", Gadkari told reporters in Mumbai responding to the Congress' claims of wrongdoing on BJP's part to come to power in the coastal state. When asked to react on his son's resignation, Rane Sr said that it is his political thought and he would not interfere in his political decision.

The infighting within the Goa Congress unit came out in the open after Rane disappeared before the crucial floor test on Thursday.

Eventually, during the trust vote, the Congress, which was the single largest party with 17 lawmakers, not only could not pull Independent legislators and allies to its side, it could not even retain its own flock, with Rane playing truant.
