Mercedes were forced into the driver market when Nico Rosberg sensationally announced his retirement from Formula One just five days after winning his maiden world championship a year ago.

Nico Rosberg has stated that his desire is to rebuild his friendship with Lewis Hamilton now that they are no longer rivals on the Formula One circuit.

Lewis's answers to some of the best questions selected by Damon will appear in features during Sky Sports F1's coverage of the 2017 season.

"It's going to be challenging coming into a new team with Lewis having been there for so many years and with the new regulations".

Bottas is saying he can take on triple world champion Hamilton, while Mercedes team figures have said the 27-year-old is a like-for-like substitute for Rosberg.

This season Bottas is stepping up to the Mercedes F1 team where, based on the last three seasons' results, he is nearly assured of race wins as well as the prospect of a title fight.

"I really respect what he (Hamilton) has done in his career, so many poles and wins and three titles", he said.

Accepting his still have everything to prove in F1, Bottas is confident he can quickly establish himself amongst the front runners. "It's not just about your talent to win the race, it's a technical sport and it's been always like that".

Bottas, who will join Hamilton at the launch of the new Mercedes at Silverstone next week before testing in Spain the following week, saw no obstacles to the pair working well together and racing hard and fair.

"I won't give away any of Lewis' secrets, for example". "We should be able to race hard, fair, be professional and work well as a team and as a good pair of team-mates should do". "I just sent a request that perhaps we could catch up before the season", Bottas said.

The 20-race season starts in Australia on March 26. He can achieve great things as well, as long as the team give him a good vehicle.
