Nintendo Switch is Not Launching With the Virtual Console

One unfortunate bit of news, however, is that the Switch won't have a Virtual Console from launch. One bundle features the Switch, the Switch's Pro controller and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for $429.99. For this reason it is possible to register our new Nintendo Switch ID, which as you can imagine will have nothing to do with previous Nintendo consoles and services. Two examples are the Nintendo Account, which will give access to most of Nintendo services, and the Nintendo Network ID, which is used for Miiverse, Wii U's and 3DS' eshops.

Lastly, Nintendo noted that people can buy digital Switch games through Nintendo.com and that the games can then be downloaded at home or on the go (if there's a wifi connection) and the game should be installed once the player returns. Nintendo's good news is that they are going to ship 2 million systems worldwide at its launch, so there is always a chance for all of us to pre-order the game console.

According to the article the eShop will become active on March 3rd via an automated system update.

It has been a month we knew all the details of Nintendo Switch in its presentation, one of the most important was that the console was put on sale next March 3, a date that is now just around the corner.

Have you gotten your Nintendo User IDs yet? We learned this recently from a leaked Switch UI video, but now Nintendo has told us officially.

Nintendo hasn't shared much information on the Switch's eShop until today.

If Nintendo plans to avoid making similar missteps, it needs to get things right with the Switch. One attendee asked: "If I want to take my system with me. if I were to buy a digital game, could I buy it once, or would I have to buy it multiple times so they can use those games?" Users have to link their Nintendo Accounts to the Switch first, but after that they can use the same pool of wallet cash across all linked devices, including Wii U, 3DS and Switch. Nintendo says more information about the Switch Virtual Console will be coming later, so it sounds like we'll get it eventually at any rate.
