Police said they did not know if the attack was random or if Marcotte was targeted.

A police source told local media Ms Marcotte was found with burns on her hands, feet and part of her head. Her body was found about 8:20 pm. that night in a wooded area off Brooks Station Road.

Princeton Town Administrator Nina Nazarian said people in town scheduled a vigil for Tuesday night to honor Marcotte and show support for her family. "They just seem to work above and beyond what they have to do to find this person", Marcotte said, adding authorities have "offered us all kinds of assistance".

Worcester (WUS'-tur) District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said Tuesday "nothing has been ruled in or out" in the death of Vanessa Marcotte in Princeton.

Vetrano was strangled and sexually assaulted after setting out for a jog just after 5 p.m. on August 2 through a park several blocks away from her Queens, New York home. They have asked residents to stay vigilant.

On Sunday afternoon, 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte left her mother's house to go for a run and never returned. Marcotte, a 27-year-old account manager at Google, was visiting her mother.

Police are now canvasing the area near where Marcotte's body was found, WHDH reported.

A man and a woman who would identify themselves only as lifelong family friends, said Vanessa's smile lit up the room and she had a childlike zest for life. They reiterated a call for the public's help, urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area Sunday afternoon to call them.

The phone line is anonymous and investigators will follow up on all tips.

"It hits home", said Popik, who noted she hadn't seen Marcotte since high school.

The district attorney's office has asked anyone with information relevant to the investigation to call the Massachusetts State Police tip line at 508-453-7589, the state police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's office at 508-453-7589, or the Princeton Police Department at 978-464-2928.

A former boss describes Marcotte, a Boston University graduate, as "bright", "ambitious", "caring", and "just a delightful person". She worked at two MA marketing companies before moving to NY. She worked several marketing jobs in the Boston area after college, starting to work at Google in early 2015.
