Bruce's first Mets homer leads to win over Yankees

At least one Mets employee was disappointed that former major leaguer Kevin Millar tweeted a photo of his round of golf on Wednesday with Cespedes, which put it on the media's radar.

Bruce belted a three-run homer for his first hit as a Met, ending an 0-for-10 skid since his deadline acquisition from the Reds with a towering shot to right-center in a four-run fifth inning against Yanks starter Nate Eovaldi.

Don't count Mets manager Terry Collins among that bunch.

Teammate Kelly Johnson said it's not an issue as long as player is able to play that night.

That evening, Cespedes tweaked his quad on a ninth-inning strikeout and was placed on the disabled list. The atmosphere in that clubhouse the other day when we got Jay Bruce should've been that our ownership and our front office don't think we're dead or they wouldn't have gone out and done what they did.

"I thought tonight, he had maybe his best stuff all year", Collins said. "But it's still the same guy", Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. Cleveland's starting pitchers allowed 22 runs - 21 earned - in 8.1 innings. "He was just being Bart".

Addison Reed pitched a flawless eighth and Jeurys Familia worked around a pair of one-out singles for his 38th save in 40 chances, retiring Rob Refsnyder on a game-ending double-play grounder over the third-base bag. "Reality is, he came back after his last at-bat and said, ' my leg's bothering me again.' He got on base, ran the bases".

New York Yankees pinch hitter Alex Rodriguez flies out to right field for the final out in a loss to the New York Mets in an interleague baseball game Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, in New York.

Here's (some) of what Rodriguez accomplished in his years in New York: Two league MVP awards, a World Series championship, 2009 ALCS MVP, 351 home runs, 1,094 RBI, 137 OPS+, 54.4 WAR, seven All-Star Game appearances, seven top-15 AL MVP finishes and three Silver Sluggers.

It was a move that surprised many, including Colon, who said through a translator: "He's always hit well against me. I mean, I say that's my dad". While Collins continues to defend his outfielder, he's clearly getting agitated having to answer questions about the subject.

With runners at second and third and one out in the second, Sanchez tapped a little roller to Colon, who got the out at first and defused the threat.

Green was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre on Thursday, and right-hander Johnny Barbato was recalled from the RailRiders.

With Brandon Nimmo promoted to replace Cespedes, the Mets now have five lefty-hitting outfielders, which Alderson acknowledged is not ideal.
