Aerial Photos: Brush Fires Burn Simultaneously in San Gabriel Mountains

The fire is about half a mile to three-quarters of a mile north of the dam, between San Gabriel and Morris dams, along the San Gabriel River, according to Lee. Smoke can be seen from the Claremont area however there is no imminent threat or danger to Claremont, according to a release sent out by the Claremont Police Department.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the city of Duarte officials said no evacuations or road closures were in effect as a result of the Fish Fire.


Firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Forest Service helped battle the blaze, assisted by helicopters. The blaze, dubbed the Reservoir Fire, quickly spread to 300 acres.

Fire crews at the scene are reporting a fatality in that crash. He didn't have information about injuries from the crash. He said the dam keeper is still at the dam and ready to evacuate if necessary. Temperatures are expected to hover in the triple digits in Los Angeles and remain in the 90s near the Sherpa fire in Santa Barbara County, authorities said. The canyon is shut down to traffic.


"Widespread triple digit heat combined with humidities in the teens and single digits will bring an extended period of elevated fire danger across much of Southwest California through at least Tuesday, with extreme fire danger for parts of the area", the National Weather Service said.

The helicopters are sucking water from the reservoir to battle flames climbing steep mountainsides. "It hasn't come over to our side", she said. Water-dropping helicopters were aiding in the firefight.


Medina said there are no injuries and no evacuations so far.
